The vineyards

The family of Baron Sergio has owed the Le Mandri and Gaudioso estates for generations. Located in Easter Sicily, within the Eloro DOC zone of the Noto valley, the vineyards are well suited for the cultivation of the Nero d’Avola and Moscato di Noto grapes. The ancient buildings were renovated and reorganised to house modern winemaking facilities, and by complementing modern technology with legacy knowledge, the Baron Sergio Winery has recaptured the ancient elegance of Sicily's native vine, Nero d’Avola. Portions of the winery are also devoted to Moscato di Noto and other international varietals.

The vines are planted in a single block, trained using an espalier system and pruned in spurred cordon. The density of the vines is approximately of 1620 root stocks per acre, yielding an average of 4450 pounds of fruit per acre. The total area of Barone Sergio winery consists approximately of 74 acres of Nero d’Avola, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grillo, Moscat and Petit Verdot vines.
